On the 6th March 2018, our normal meeting was preceded by an Information session for students and parents interested in Rotary’s Youth Exchange (RYE) Program.
We welcomed David Roach (Chair – District RYE), Jenny Dowdy (Sunrise Club), David Fuller, Gary & Robyn Oakes (Rylstone– KandosClub), exchange students Chiari Risso (Italy), Julianne Hjellup (Norway) & former Mudgee outbound exchange student, Keely Iles.
Also, Chiari’s sister, visiting from Italy was in attendance. David and “the team” enthusiastically reiterated the benefits associated with YEP including the unique opportunity to experience the many cultural aspects of a different country and possibly the chance to develop another language. Experience shows that many friendships developed through RYE will be life long.
David also explained the financial obligations of the various parties involved in RYE (ie student’s family, host Rotary Club and the sponsoring Rotary Club).
