Assistance to Cancer Care Western NSW.

The Rotary Club of Mudgee and the Mudgee Sunrise Rotary Club combined with ‘The Rotary Foundation’  to address a continuing need in the local Mudgee community for healthcare equity in the treatment of cancer, without the four hour drive to Sydney for treatment, and the emotional and financial hardship of finding suitable and affordable accommodation for patients and their care givers.

Mudgee’s two Clubs worked together to donate replacements for much needed specialist bedding at Western Care Lodge in Orange, NSW. The Lodge provides cancer and patient accommodation for the Central Western Cancer Services at Orange Base Hospital which serves Mudgee as part of its catchment area.

The money totalling $32,524 was donated by Rotary to Cancer Care Western NSW, the charity responsible for funding and builsing Western Care Lodge, along with ongoing management, operations and furnishing and equipemnt upgrades. It was used to supply 13 King sized mattresses and bases, a Queen sized mattress and base and associated bedding supplies.

Ten years ago, the two Rotary Clubs of Mudgee were instrumental in raising funds to sponsor a room at the Western Care Lodge.   In the last ten years many Mudgee residents and families have benefited from the respite services provided by Western Care Lodge.

After ten years the Clubs decided it was time to assist once again, this time with upgrades. Money was raised during a time when the Clubs were constrained in activity with the Covid-19 pandemic. The Clubs were assisted in coordination of the project by Harvey Norman, Orange and The Rotary Club of Orange to complete this project.
