On the 6th February 2018, we welcomed Mudgee Guardian editor, Honor Elliott, to our Club as
our guest speaker.
Originally from Melbourne, Honor confesses to being a “Richmond Tigers” tragic. Her attitude to her career has never been conventional, from her first job, which saw her arrive at a rural radio station with no experience and a vague idea of how to read the news.
“I literally packed up my car and drove from Melbourne to Tamworth,” she says. Since then, Honor has worked in Ballarat, Newcastle, the Sunshine Coast andCairns, mainly in commercial radio, before moving to Mudgee and taking up her current position in December 2016.
Honor spoke about the widely debated decline in conventional newspapers. The competition from internet media has placed huge pressure from slumping ad sales, loss of classified advertising and huge drops in circulation.
While the newspaper industry grapples with the new technology the future of the traditional newspaper format remains unclear. In the meantime, Honor
mentioned the Mudgee Guardian will continue to inform the local community of newsworthy events.
