Rotarians solving combinatorial maths

Last week we welcomed back Kristine Blake (Maths Coordinator) and Catherine Dewar (Teacher) from St Matthews School to talk to us about the Maths Challenge in October last year.

In addition they also tested us with some interesting, mathematical
puzzles similar to those experienced by the students during the Maths challenge.

Once again, Kristine and Catherine demonstrated their enthusiasm for Maths and spoke passionately about the Maths Challenge and the growing interest by local schools.

At the inaugural event in 2016, 9 teams represented 6 schools from 4 different towns.

In 2017, 21 teams from 14 schools and 6 different towns competed for a prize pool to help fund their respective school mathematics enhancement programs and the purchase of associated resources.

Thanks to the generous support from the sponsors: Moolarben Coal, Kepco, Peabody, and the Rotary Clubs of Mudgee and Mudgee Sunrise, the Maths Challenge has fast become a key event on the local, academic calendar.

Thanks to Peter Brennan for providing the vote of thanks to Kristine & Catherine for their involvement and interesting presentation.
