Ruth Gobbitt was last weeks guest speaker and she spoke to us about Mudgee’s NALAG Centre for Loss and Grief. NALAG Mudgee was established in 2013 following generous provision of premises by Kanandah Retirement village. Located at 107 Mortimer Street the Centre has 16 dedicated, trained volunteers. NALAG is a not for profit organisation.
The NALAG Centre provides grief and loss support to all people, both adults and children, regardless of financial circumstances and provides these services completely FREE of charge. Ruth emphasised that NALAG is not a counselling service but rather an organisation focused on supporting clients with relevant information and resources to help the healing process. Recognising the grief reactions and learning helpful and meaningful ways to enhance well being following loss is one of NALAG’s main objectives.
The NALAG Centre for Loss and Grief Mudgee is not a crisis centre and all emergencies should be directed to the appropriate agency or to the outpatient unit of the local Hospital. NALAG supports approximately 200 clients per year from a wide range of ”significant loss” situations including, but not limited to, death, relationship breakdown, unemployment, health issues, loss of pet, infertility, loss of unborn child and loss of possessions.
Our members had a number of questions for Ruth before Chris Stephens provided the vote of thanks for a very interesting presentation.
