Bushfire fund helped young families

Although most of the funds from the combined Mudgee Rotary Club’s bushfire relief appeal have been directed towards BlazeAid for the purchase of fencing materials, the Rural Financial Counselling Service (RFCS) has been keeping us informed of residents suffering extreme hardship and distress in the event we are able to provide additional support. The following feedback has been received from RFCS regarding one of their clients who received our special assistance.

This young family are extremely grateful for Rotary’s help and want to pass on a BIG thankyou. They have not had sufficient funds to repair/replace the pump even though it has been a priority for them. This will replace their previously reliable water supply and ensure they will have water for remaining cattle – particularly as the weather warms up.

Their property was totally burnt out with the exception of some sheds. The timing of this disaster, when they were already extended financially, at this point in their lives, has been a major blow. They lost $130,000 worth of cattle in the fire which was extremely distressing as well as the significant infrastructure losses.

With the assistance of Rotary they were able to rebuild 11 kilometres
of fencing which has been a wonderful help.

I know they have been struggling with the workload and the sleepless nights associated with two very young children – so this is more than just a financial boost for this hard working family – it has been a major boost to their morale.
