Jorie Ryan talked poetry

Last week Jorie Ryan entertained us with her poetry. Jorie is a poet with work published in numerous magazines. She has published three books of poetry and has appeared in children’s and adult poetry anthologies. She was a regular on the poetry scene in Sydney appearing at the Harold Park Hotel, Live Poets at North Sydney and an invited guest to the Newcastle Poetry Conference. She is passionate about the way language works and is still on the quest to understand how the world works.

Jorie explained that Poetry is a great way to relax and explore the deeper meanings of life. She recited several of her works ranging from more powerful readings to “a little bit of fun” (refer below -”After Dinner on Thursday Night”).

Ross provided the vote of thanks and Jorie kindly donated copies of her book(s) for sale to members with proceeds going to the Club.

After Dinner on Thursday Night

You are the jam tart of my life,
The apple crumble of my eye,
my cup of tea
And cappuccino two

You are the milk of kindness in a drop
and sauce for this silly goose .

You are my warm as honey toast
sweet as pie
the lemon fizz upon my life.
My simmering stew,
brown, gravy rich.
A floundering away for countless meals
And soul baby sole.

I do not give a fig
How fruit cake this all sounds
You are my crème de la crème
(brulee or caramel)
