Rotarian Graham Peggs thanked and presented Jocelyn with a gift on Tuesday night, after Jocelyn talked about her adventure in Cambodia.
Jocelyn was on a crossroad of her life when she decided that she would volunteer and help some poorer countries around the world. Having presented with a few options, Jocelyn chose to go to Cambodia via Volunteer HQ in New Zealand.
Jocelyn shared her experience while in Cambodia, ranging from the initial culture shock, the poor conditions, e.g. sanitation, work safety, etc to the effects of the Khmer Rouge on Cambodians. However, she made friends with locals e.g. students, a book seller who lost both arms, etc. With a background in child care, Jocelyn volunteered at an orphanage KSEDO (Khmer Section Education Development Organisation) and a charity associated with Mother Theresa’s organisation caring for 0 to 5 yrs children with disabilities.
Using a grant from the Rotary Club of Mudgee, Jocelyn built a house for the kids at the orphanage which brings much joy and happiness to the children. Please see pictures below of the house.
