At the meeting on the 19th of September, guest speaker Elly Rands gave us an interesting insight into her early life in Holland, her motivation toemigrate to Australia, her adventures of settling into a new life in a new country and finally how she now calls Mudgee “home”.
Elly’s journey provided a window to the past, the illustrations showed vivid images of places in Sydney and many other places in the years gone past, most members remember those nostalgic times. In many ways, the story also reflects the life of migrants who try to make a living in Australia and call Australia home.
Elly worked in multiple jobs, in various locations and capacities, e.g. as account manager at the early stages of companies like Joyce Mayne and Harvey Norman.
We are very pleased and fortunate that Elly has now come to a point in her life that she wants to “give back” to the community and has chosen Rotary as her preferred method.
The meeting was at PCYC, followed by a convivial banquet meal consisting on four types of entre and five main dishes at the Thai restaurant next door.
