At last week’s meeting our District Chairman for NGSE, Brian Oakley, gave an account of the New Generation Service Exchange (NGSE) program. The program was accredited in 2016 into a district program.
The NGSE offers opportunity for people, aged between 18 and 30 years old, to participate in a short term exchange program designed to introduce them into unpaid employment similar to their intended vocation or for humanitarian purposes in another country.
Participants live with local Rotarian hosts. The costs associated with obtaining a travel visa and air fares are borne by the participant. Brian gave examples of individuals that have benefited from the program and shared with us, their positive feedback of the opportunity.
This program has indeed benefited participants, particularly in experiencing other cultures and enhancing their careers to a new level. The NGSE bridges and complements Rotary’s existing Youth Exchange and Group Study Exchange programs.
Club President, Sof (left), thanked Brian for his informative presentation.
