Another successful year for the Maths Challenge. This year was the third year of the event which took place on Tuesday 23rd October, at St Matthew’s.
Students from schools in Kandos, Rylstone, Mudgee, Gulgong, Lue, Hargraves and Wellington participated in the event. The teachers from Wellington did all they could to come to Mudgee after issues with transport – “The students were just too excited” said one of the teachers.
There were also supporters, retired teachers and parents who came to see the event unfold. While attending the event, one of the parents was quite enthused and offered to provide sponsorship for the Maths Challenge next year, via their local engineering company.
The students generally had fun working as groups in solving practical maths problems. Morning tea and lunch was provided for all participants to rejuvenate their energy levels.
Prize moneys were shared by the schools for their Mathematic Enrichment Program and purchase other resources needed. This year we saw students from Gulgong, Mudgee and Wellington performing well. Overall, it was great to see the levelling of school performance across the region, including the combined Lue-Hargraves team.
Many thanks to our sponsors Yan Coal, Peabody, KEPCO, Rotary Clubs of Mudgee and Mudgee Sunrise and St Matthews for their continuing support. And special thanks to the teachers and year 11 students at St Matthew’s for helping running the event.
